Delegation Selection
Would you like to take part in an international meeting? Here you can find out how.

About

Any Swiss medical student can apply to become a delegate at the IFMSA General Assemblies (GAs) or the Europe Regional Meeting (EuRegMe)

The call for delegates to the GAs as well as the EuRegMe is shared on several platforms, including Instagram, different email lists (such as the Events, the Fachschaften and the Associate Members), and in the swimsagram newsletter.

The call for the two GAs (March Meeting and August Meeting) traditionally opens on the last day of the Swiss Medical Students Convention (SMSC), which usually takes place during October and March. The call for the EuRegMe opens around November/December.

The application forms are identical and consist mainly of four questions:

+
  1. Describe your past and current experiences within swimsa
  2. How do you plan to contribute to the delegation and the meeting?
  3. What is your motivation to participate in this meeting?
  4. What are you planning on doing with your new gained experience after this meeting back in Switzerland?

The answers to these questions are then graded by the swimsa Executive Board and National Officers in a standardised way before the delegation selection meeting takes place. Each answer receives a score between one and three. In order to be discussed at the delegation selection meeting, an applicant must reach a minimum average score of 1.8. For the delegation selection meeting to take place, a quorum that is calculated out of the number of Executive Board members and National Officers must be reached. During the meeting, each delegate that has reached at least 1.8 points on average is being discussed. While the answers to the application questions are the main focus, other aspects such as the year of study and prior experiences with international events may be taken into account to create a balanced delegation. After this meeting, each applicant is contacted personally by the VPG.

At GAs the maximum delegation size is 16 while at the EuRegMe it is usually seven. After the official registration process has closed, there may be additional leftover spots that the VPG can ask for swimsa to receive.
