The Fachschaft Medizin Basel (FaMBa) is the association of medical students in Basel. It is a politically neutral organization representing students of human and dental medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel. All registered students are members, with the exception of those who renounce their membership of the Student Association of the University of Basel (SKUBA) in writing.

The main aim of the FaMBa is to represent the interests of students vis-à-vis the teaching staff, the university and the outside world. It sits on various university committees, where it puts forward its concerns and positions, and is also in direct contact with the Dean’s Office of Studies.

On an academic level, the annual course delegates, elected by each class at the beginning of the year, are also the first point of contact for students and teachers. On the social front, the association organizes events and parties several times a year, promoting social cohesion among students.

Our students: We all know each other. There is a very informal atmosphere in which students of all years can interact with each other.

Our city: A very student-oriented and lively city with lots of events, but with a very chilled and relaxed atmosphere.

Our university: A bilingual university! Each faculty offers courses in German and/or French. This ensures great diversity, as people from all cantons come together every day.

A project we are proud of: the Burn-out Party! This is an event that brings together students of health and nursing, osteopathy, biomedicine and medicine to improve and relax relations between the different medical specialties. The aim: to promote good working conditions, combat prejudice, encourage interdisciplinarity, reduce burn-out and ensure the best possible care for our future patients.

An outstanding event: the Welcome Bowling! This is the first event of the year. It allows first-year students to meet and exchange ideas with each other and with students from other years.

Fun fact: you can take an oral exam where the examiner comes barefoot.

Our Students: We are all very loyal to our library— for many of us, it’s our second home. It’s where we’ve spent countless hours preparing for exams, working on projects, or simply finding a quiet moment in a busy day. Even after graduating, many of our alumni, now doctors, still come back to the library. It’s a special place that reminds them of where their journey started.
Our City: Geneva is a city that feels like it was made for students. It’s lively yet peaceful, full of cozy cafés, inspiring views by the lake, and so many spots to study or unwind. There’s always something happening, from cultural events to fun activities, which makes balancing studies and life here so enjoyable.
Our University: Our university focuses on helping us become skilled and compassionate doctors. Beyond just studying medicine, we have lots of opportunities to join projects, meet new people, and grow as individuals. With 13 different projects, there’s something for everyone to explore and contribute to, making our time here more than just about academics.
A Project We Are Proud Of: PARMED is where connections between students really happen. Each of us is randomly assigned to a “family” made up of students from different years, and we meet four times a year. These gatherings are full of music, laughter, advice-sharing, and of course, some drinks to keep the conversations flowing. It’s not just about having fun—it’s about creating friendships and support systems that last well beyond the first year.
An Outstanding Event: The Med Gala was a night to remember! From celebrating our professors at the Med Awards to cheering on the incredible talents of our fellow students, it was a perfect mix of fun and appreciation. The evening ended with a dance party that brought students and professors together in a way we don’t often see. It was a celebration of all the hard work we do and a reminder of how strong and vibrant our community really is.
A Fun Fact: We love making funny videos with our professors! Whether it’s acting out silly skits or recreating iconic scenes, these moments always bring lots of laughs and help break the usual barriers between students and teachers.

AEML - University of Lausanne

Learn more

Founded in 1980, the Association des Étudiantes en Médecine de Lausanne (AEML) is politically neutral. It represents the interests of over 1500 medical students at the University of Lausanne’s Faculty of Medicine. Its mission is to defend the interests of students in the field of training and study plans, and to organize various events. The AEML also collaborates with other associations, both within and outside the university.

The Committee governs the association within the framework set by its Articles of Association, and implements the decisions of the General Meeting and the Delegates’ Meeting. The Committee convenes these meetings, organizes them and prepares the dossiers to be presented. It can therefore take a position in the event of a vote. It also makes available to students all information of interest to them, whether directly related to its meetings or to student life (internships, job offers).

All members of the association work on a voluntary basis.

Previously, AEML was called Association des Étudiants en Médecine de Lausanne. In 2017, the General Meeting launched the “AEM-Elle” initiative. It aims to raise awareness among the student and medical bodies about discrimination against women in the medical professions and the barriers placed in the way of women in their careers and studies. The decision was taken to use the feminine instead of the masculine as a generic term to represent both sexes.

ANEM - University of Neuchâtel

Our students: As it is only possible to complete the first year of medical studies in Neuchâtel, the ANEM mainly represents first-year medical students. However, there are around 70 members in total between the second and sixth years of study.

Our university: The UniNE is based on a selection process. At the end of the academic year, the students with the 26 best grade point averages are transferred to UNIGE or UNIL.

Our city: Neuchâtel is a small city with a population of around 33,000. Many students from other cities come to Neuchâtel for the first year of their medical studies. Why is that? Because of the proximity to the professors! A nice advantage of being 120 in a lecture hall.

An outstanding event: The most successful event in Neuchâtel is the Teddy Bear Hospital. It takes place in October in the Cité universitaire de Neuchâtel, right next to the hospital.

FluMed - University of Lucerne

Learn more

As the Lucerne Medical Students’ Association, we see it as our task to act as an intermediary between the Universities of Lucerne and Zurich, to represent the interests of the students of this joint Master’s degree programme vis-à-vis the University of Lucerne, the partner organizations of this degree programme and the public, and to take care of the students’ concerns regarding the Master’s degree programme in Lucerne.

It is important for us to be sufficiently informed about our educational pathway and to have a say in the design of the still new degree program.

Another important concern for us is to provide a platform for students on the Lucerne track to get to know each other during their Bachelor’s degree, to make contacts and to exchange ideas, so that a Lucerne identity can develop right from the start.

Our association is based in Lucerne, where we have been accredited by the university since our foundation. We will be transformed into a student council at the University of Lucerne as soon as the first cohort starts their Master’s degree in Lucerne in HS2020. In addition, we have also been accredited at the University of Zurich since fall 2018, where we operate as an associated association of fvmed, with which we work closely.
